Informal science education supports people of all ages and walks of life in exploring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The Harvard Family Research Project (HFRP) is partnering with the Department of Education and others to sponsor a series of webinars about family, school, and community engagement.
The first webinar in the series, April 29, is open to all, but participation is limited. Register here.
The Department of Education's Parental Information and Resource Center notes: "Research over the past 30 years has shown that engaging families in their children's education increases student achievement and decreases dropout rates. Effective family engagement is not a one-time program or the choice of a good school, but rather a set of day-to-day practices, attitudes, beliefs and interactions that support learning at home, at school, afterschool, and during the summer."
This statement is borne out, in the informal science education arena, by the latest reports from Robert Tai of the University of Virginia, "Eyeballs in the Fridge."
Webinar topics for the Department of Education/HFRP series include:
Webinar 1: Transforming Schools Through Family, School, and Community Engagement
Webinar 2: A New Day: Family, School, and Community Engagement in Education Reform
Webinar 3: Data Driven: Making Student and School Data Accessible and Meaningful to Families
