Informal science education supports people of all ages and walks of life in exploring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Terri Gipson, astronomer and one-time member of the Hubble Space Telescope research team, joined CAISE in March as new project director. Terri’s background in informal science education includes stints at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, University of North Carolina’s Morehead Planetarium, and St. Louis Science Center, where she led concept development for a new planetarium. She was also national coordinator for the NSF-funded Career Access Program (1992–95), designed to attract, train, and retain people from underserved groups in the ISE field. Terri succeeds Ellen McCallie, who is now deputy director of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsbugh. Working with Terri are Laura Huerta Migus (CAISE Fellows), Wendy Hancock (ISE Summit), and Wendy Pollock, CAISE Principal Investigator.
