Informal science education supports people of all ages and walks of life in exploring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Martin Storksdieck is the newly appointed director of the Board of Science Education (BOSE) at the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council. Formerly director of project development at the Institute for Learning Innovation (ILI) in Annapolis, Maryland, he will continue with the organization as a research fellow pursuing studies in science learning in immersive environments, models involving researchers and scientists in science museums, and understanding the impact of science hobbyists on the public understanding of science.
The work of BOSE focuses on science education pre-K through adulthood, in formal school settings and across the many diverse venues that constitute informal science education. The Board recently released the study Learning Science in Informal Environments: People, Places, and Pursuits.
