Informal science education supports people of all ages and walks of life in exploring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The National Gardening Association (NGA), with support from Home Depot, will award Youth Garden Grants to 100 schools and community organizations throughout the United States. To qualify for the program schools and organizations must plan to garden with 15 or more children between the ages of 3 and 18.
Priority will be given to programs that emphasize one or more of these areas: educational focus or program integration, nutrition, environmental awareness, entrepreneurship and social aspects of gardening such as leadership development, team building, or community support.
Awards will range from $500 to $1,000 in the form of gift cards from Home Depot and the Gardening with Kids catalog. All winners will receive educational materials from NGA. The application deadline is November 2, 2009. Application guidelines and forms are available on the NGA website.
