Museums, libraries, and 21st-century skills: new tools from IMLS

Two publications of note to the ISE field are available online from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a U.S. federal agency:

The Future of Museums and Libraries: A Discussion Guide encourages conversations that will help institutions make strategic decisions in their future planning. Based on an exchange held last year at the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, this booklet poses discussion questions on the impact of economic, social, political, and technological changes on community needs.

Museums, Libraries and 21st Century Skills helps museum and library leaders envision their role in providing lifelong learning experiences that develop skills needed to compete in a global economy—skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, entrepreneurship, and creativity. The report includes a self-assessment tool to help with planning (also available as an online questionnaire).
