CAISE works to strengthen and connect the informal science education community by catalyzing conversation and collaboration across the entire field with a focus on improving practice, documenting evidence of impact, and communicating the contributions of informal science education.

CAISE organizes biennial ISE Summits in Washington, D.C., for principal investigators of projects supported by the NSF Informal Science Education (ISE) program and others who take an active interest in broad strategic issues that cut across the informal science education field. ISE Summits offer an opportunity to discuss trends and issues in the field and to get updates on the latest directions in federal funding. The ISE Summit 2010 was held March 3-5, 2010. The CAISE Fellows Program aims to broaden participation by and build capacity of ISE professionals who are from underrepresented groups and underrepresented regions of the United States. Fellows participate in CAISE Inquiry Groups and in ongoing professional development. View current CAISE Fellows.
CAISE Inquiry Groups help to strengthen and connect the informal science education community by catalyzing conversations across the field around issues and topics of common concern. Inquiry Groups meet together to examine and discuss an issue or set of questions, gather and analyze evidence from practice and research, and develop summaries and recommendations with three audiences in mind: the ISE field as a whole, principal investigators (PIs) and prospective PIs of NSF/ISE grants, and funders of informal science education. Inquiry Group reports are posted in the Resources section of this site. For more about current inquiries, follow the "Read More" link, below.
CAISE hosts online discussions with a focus on topics investigated by CAISE Inquiry Groups and NSF-sponsored informal science education workshps and conferences. Join the CAISE Forum to participate.
