Children and Nature

Exploring California Biodiversity (NSF GK-12)

March 02, 2010 by Nicole Migliarese

I am continuously reminded that children and adults, alike, bring with them rich and diverse ideas about the natural world and the ‘doing’ of science. The ECB Project provides a context for participants to integrate their ideas that are often shaped by exposure to ‘mediated nature’ with a hands-on, real-world experience with the natural world. Especially powerful? The opportunity for participants to work with field scientists – in place of the stereotypically expected lab coats and electrified hair, participants meet women and men from many walks of life whose passion for the natural world led them to a career in science.
