New Wine, Old Bottles: ISE for Adults Ages 50+

A Science Education Center for the Third Age (SECTA)

March 03, 2010 by Kali Lightfoot

Our planning grant will create a national center to encourage STEM learning for adults over age 50. Our SECTA project will leverage the network of 120 Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes at universities in 50 states, collaborating with their local ISE organizations. The OLLIs are uniquely positioned as community-based organizations of healthy, curious older adults. They are connected with academia and partner with learning-based organizations in the community. Six small collaborative projects are running and generating lots of enthusiasm. Our aspirational goal is 90,000+ STEM literate citizen scientists over age 50!
