Creating Wonder!

Petrosains Science Scouts

March 15, 2010 by James Bell

At Petrosains: The Discovery Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia elementary school-aged “Science Scouts” become excited about science and math by joining a “troop” of peers with whom they play, explore and create, using everyday materials. The program also serves as a laboratory in which staff refine developmentally appropriate activities for investigating content such as patterns in nature, sustainable energy and properties of matter. The Scout leaders interweave science, art and engineering processes, giving the Scouts interdisciplinary entry points for skill development. Each troop experiences a full school year of bi-weekly meetings, building their strong sense of identity as Science Scouts.
