This project created hands-on activities using everyday and recycled materials for children to make their own science toys. Activities include videos, concept maps, and additional resources from the National Digital Science Library. A California School-Aged Consortium partnership enabled instructional materials to be disseminated via a trainee network that provided outreach to afterschool providers. We were heartened when the manager of a low-incoming community housing project contacted us to request more DVDs for clients without Internet. Serving largely Hispanic/Latino families with annual incomes as low as $10,000 per household, she conducted staff development who then incorporated science in afterschool kids’ programs.
