Building an Apprenticeship Network

Kids' Survey Network

February 28, 2010 by Elizabeth Rowe

Kids’ Survey Network (KSN) is a prototype of a new model of informal science education—an apprenticeship network. An apprenticeship network is a web-based informal learning environment that enables groups of participants to become competent in a project-based domain of endeavor. Four coordinated components mediate and organize their activity and learning: (1) a web-based community; (2) a common set of tools; (3) a suite of learning games and videos; and (4) structures for tiered, team-based advancement. KSN is dedicated to promoting the responsible and successful use of data by future citizens and workers.
