I Brake for Hydrobots!

IPY Polar Hydrobot Simulator

March 01, 2010 by brad mclain

The MATE hydrobot competition for youth around the world will soon have a new and exciting way to develop and compete their own hydrobots — a hydrobot simulator. The Polar-SIM has been specifically designed to emulate the operation of an actual underwater ROV being used in Antarctica. Polar-SIM provides realistic practice operating hydrobots in real-world competitions. The research behind the project is looking at how skills and knowledge transfer from virtual environments to real-world applications. Also, the National Network of Challenger Learning Centers will use the simulator as the basis for a new Challenger Mission exploring Europa.
