Finding NEO: asteroids, lightcurves, and amateur astronomers

Finding NEO

March 02, 2010 by James Harold

A CRPA project (with additional NASA support), Finding NEO is developing a set of multimedia and interactive experiences that explore asteroids, comets, how we learn about them, how to think about the risks, and more. The project explores the role of backyard astronomers in Near Earth Object research, including video interviews as well as a “light curve” activity. In addition, our physics-engine based “asteroids” game provides an excellent (and entertaining) framework for discussing gravity misconceptions and the ability of games to correct them.
