Science is for Everyone

Science in the Stacks

March 02, 2010 by Lorna Rudder-Kilkenny

A recent science presentation on fossils included activities of observation of different types of fossils and creating simulated fossils (practicing process skills of measuring and mixing). The librarian read a story about Mary Anning, a woman of the 1800’s, never formally educated, but well respected by the scientists of the day for her many discoveries. The children expressed surprise that a non-professional can do science and some commented that they might be able to make discoveries close to home.
